Summer Tanager
The Summer Tanager, Piranga rubra, is one of the two regular tanager species present in Ontario although it is not common. The other is the Scarlet Tanager.
It ranges from Canada through much of Central and South America.
The juvenile presents an interesting appearance as it changes to adult plumage with a distinctive mottled plumage. (See below)

Silver-throated Tanager in Fig tree
This strangler fig has used another tree to grow to about 40 feet and put out an abundance of fruit. I had hoped it would attract Golden-browed Chlorophonia )no luck_ but it did provide a meal for a number of interesting species. From the Chiriqui highlands of Panama.

The Blue-Gray Tanager is one of the most common species in Central America. It squeeky toy call is often heard and it readily comes to fruit feeders.
This image was taken in a driving rain in the Chiriqui mountains of Panama.

Palm Tanager nest
The Palm Tanager, Thraupis palmarum, is found from Nicaragua to central South America, where it is often common. It is often seen near human habitation and will come to bird tables for fruit. The sexes are alike.
