The Hawaiian Stilt,Himantopus mexicanus knudseni, is a subspecies of the bird more commonly known as the Black-necked Stilt. Its Hawaiian name is the Ae’o. The characteristic differences from the nominate subspecies is more extensive black plumage on the back of the neck and its face.
