Mesa Arch

Located in Canyonlands National Park, Mesa Arch is one of the great iconic scenes from the southwest. At sunrise the light shines on the underside of the arch creating a warm glow in the red rock. In the distance can be seen a framed view of Canyonlands.

Monument Valley

Hollywood has made it known to many people, as a great many Westerns were filmed in Monument Valley. It is one of my favorite places, a place where a look in every direction shows great beauty.

The southwest is filled with landscape wonders but I don’t think any are better than Bryce Canyon when the first rays light the hoodoos.

Natural Bridges National Monument, Utah

Somewhere, something incredible is waiting to be known” – Carl Sagan

Natural bridges look similar to arches but they are formed by water rather than erosion, and are much rarer. Natural Bridges National Monument is on Hyw 275 which is off Hwy 95 near Mexican Hat. It is isolated and gets far fewer visitors than a place like Arches NP, but it is well worth a visit. Here is the Visitor’s Guide. Natural Bridges National Monument has a nine mile loop drive which connects to trails to three natural bridges.

Sipapu Bridge:The longest of the three bridges at Natural bridges National Monument, it is reachedĀ  by a 1.2 mile round tripĀ  trail, fairly steep at the bottom.

Kachina Bridge:Kachina is the most massive of the bridges at Natural Bridges Monument.
