The Northern Wheatear, Oanenthe oanenthe, is a long range migrant which breeds in widespread areas in Alaska, northern Canada and Greenland, as well as northern Europe and Asia. They follow interesting migratory paths with Canadian birds showing up in the Azores, and western North American birds traveling through Asia to Africa. Many of the European and Asian species also winter in Africa.
While the species has been considered a member of the Thrush Family, it is now classified as part of the Old World Flycatchers.
