St. Andrew’s Mill: Ontario’s Old Mills

Built by Robert Steele in 1856 in Fergus, it has had a number of names, including the Monkland Mill and the Walkley Mill.

  1. I like the brooding moodiness in your photograph, especially the interactions between the roofs against the sombre sky. The river ice mirrors the sky but with more vitality and brightness. There are other such ‘reflections’ that hold my interest: the foreground cedars and the background trees, the smaller darker building to right of the larger brighter mill, and the street line ascending from the river line to form a widening angle. I appreciate such photographs that allow one to ponder. Thank you.
