Stromness Harbour, Orkney Isles

The car ferry from Scrabster on the Scottish mainland arrives in Stromness and this is the view from the Stromness harbour.

Kirkwall Harbour

From this harbour, run ferries to many of the smaller outer islands of the Orknies

Old Orkney House

One of the interesting aspects of the Orknies is the lack of trees which has meant that dwellings have been made of stone going back into history. This building is typical of the abandoned buildings found in the islands.

Stone Dikes

Many of the fields are bordered with stone dikes which weather and become lichen covered. They make a good background for flowers.
