Greater Shearwater, Puffinus gravisĀ is primarily an Atlantic ocean dweller, and has a strong tendency to follow ships. The well demarcated black cap and black bill distinguish it, with a short white band on dark uppertail coverts.
This species follows a circular route up the eastern coast of South and North America before crossing the Atlantic in late August and heading back south.
