Gooderham and Worts Distillery

James Worts and William Gooderham partnered to build a milling operation in 1831in Toronto. In 1832 Wort’s wife dies during childbirth and the distraught husband killed himself. Gooderham continues the business in partnership with Wort’s oldest son, James. The business expands to include a distillery and many other buildings. The present five story stone mill is built in 1859.
