
Some details from Maine
They are somewhere between the grand landscape vistas of the Grand Canyon, and the tiny macros showing the pollen grains of a flower. I call them midscapes, small scenes showing some of the interesting things that are all around us.
As is often the case with photography, they are done by deciding what best to leave out rather than include.

The world's Largest Globe
Located at the Delorme Map Company outlet in Maine is the world’s largest globe called Eartha. It rotates and is 41.5 feet in diameter. You can view and photograph it on three levels. Just off I-95 near Freeport, and well worth a visit.

Belted Galloway, Maine
Belted Galloway are a rare breed of cattle originally from Scotland. This group looked especially good in the autumn background of Maine.

Harbor Rope, Maine
If you find a working harbor, you can usually find some interesting elements to photograph. In Maine, this can include lobster pots as well as rope and floats.
How can you tell if it is a working harbor? It doesn’t have a Starbucks Coffee.

Golden Ferns, Maine
In the fall. there are great sweeps of golden ferns, in coastal Maine woodlands. I think this is Ostrich fern, Dryopteridaceae matteuccia. If anyone can confirm or correct, please do.

Cape Neddick (Nubble Light), Maine
The Cape Neddick Lighthouse, also known as the Nubble Light was built in York Harbor, Maine and came into use in 1879.
It is is accessed and receives a high number of annual visitors.

Portland Head Lighthouse, Maine
Portland Head Lighthouse in Maine is probably North America’s most photographed lighthouse. Located at Cape Elizabeth, construction was begun in 1787 at George Washington’s directive and completed in 1791.

Bass Harbor Head Light, Maine
Bass Harbor lies just outside of Acadia National Park in Maine and at the head of the harbor lies a lovely lighthouse. It was built in 1858 and automated in 1974. There is a short trail from the parking lot which leads to the rocks below the light, and a much photographed view of the lighthouse.

Bubble Rock, Acadia N.P., Maine
From Jordon Pond in Acadia N.P., one of the distinctive features are the Bubble Rocks. The trails to the top allow you to access a panoramic view of the park.
