Gordon Heublein, a food magnate, was walking in the on Talcott Mountain near Hartford, with his fiancee, and promised to build her a castle in the area. He kept his promise by building Heublein Tower as their summer house.

The building has been restored and run as an attraction by the State of Connecticut. Those who brave the long staircase walk to the top are rewarded with some wonderful views of farms and trees, especially fine in the fall.

One of my daughters is doing research on a type of fish that lives in the Salmon River in Connecticut, and this is her Field Site. Tough place to work isn’t it? The Salmon River flows into the Connecticut and eventually into the Atlantic. It is a favorite spot for fly fisherman and kayakers.

I like to take images of a city like Hartford on a Sunday or holiday when there are not a lot of people about. They can in fact be surprising empty on those days.

Hartford is the capital of Connecticut but it is not a very big city and its downtown is compact. My favorite building was the Phoenix, sometimes called the ship building. It distinctive shape and reflections in its glass walls make it very interesting.
