
Famous for it’s wine, the Châteauneuf-du-Pape area is typical of the southern France countryside, long rolling vista, vinyards, and colored tile roofs. very relaxing to wander about. The area was developed by the french popes of Avingon who promoted wine making in the region.




A village in the Loire valley region of France, Argenton-sur-Creuse is a beatiful place blessed with picturesque bridges and buildings lining the bank of the river. On a height overlooking the river is a church with a golden statue of the Madonna called the Bonne Dame.

For much of the history of the Roman Catholic Church, the Pope has been Italian. Recently of course, he was Polish and currently he is German. For about a 50 year period beginning in 1309, the popes were French, and their residence was in Avignon were a fabulous palace was built on the Rhone River. It is a wonderful place to visit.

Pont du Gard is a massive Roman aqueduct built in the first century in the south of France. Built on three levels, it is a huge attraction in the area.



We walked toward the Chateau de Chambord with dark storm clouds shuffling past. As we turned a corner, it came into view, a spectacular sight. Building began in the early part of the Sixteenth Century by King Francois 1 and it contains over 440 rooms. It has a unique double helix staircase rumored to have been designed by Leonardo Da Vinci, in which those ascending never meet those descending. A beautiful old “village on a rock’ in southern France. Looking acroos a valley, you will see the old winding streets and buildings winding to the top where there is a church and a castle. A must see, if you are in the area.





Gargilesse is a small village in the Loire Valley region of France, which has long been an attraction for artists such as George Sand. A 12th century Roman Church and a Chateau overlooking a river gorge, are the centerpieces to many other picturesque buildings.
