I am pleased to see that Gerry Rising has a new book out.

For 25 years Gerry wrote a weekly column for the Buffalo News called Nature Watch. This book contains 100 of those essays. Some of them are about individual bird species. I like to think I have some knowledge of birds but I learned something new and interesting about each of the species he has written about. Many of the most fascinating concern species which are now extinct.

Other essays touch on some of the interesting people who have been passionate about birds. This includes well known personalities like Roger Tory Peterson and some less well known like Alan Klonick who apparently jumped into the frigid Genesee River to help further bird knowledge. But I’ll let Gerry tell that story.

The book is available in paperback from Amazon. You can find it here:

Birds and Birdwatchers

I highly recommend it!!
