Canton Mill: Ontario’s Old Mills

Found on the Ganaraska River, north of Couburg, Ontario. Thanks to the people at Couburg Museum for pointing out that the datestone says “W.H.Kinsman, Canton, 1886”

  1. That datestone in the middle of your picture says simply “W.H.Kinsman, Canton, 1886”

  3. It is really north of Port Hope, not Cobourg. It is north west of Port Hop up county road 10.

  4. Hello Harold, for those who might be looking for the Canton Mill, as Don said, Canton is on Northumberland County Road 10; just a few minutes north of Welcome (where the historic Queen’s Highway 2 cuts due south toward Port Hope).
Cobourg, on the other hand, is the next town east of Port Hope on the shore of Lake Ontario.
