Bladder campion, Silene vulgaris

Classified as a weed by many Government Agricultural Agencies, Bladder campion, Silene vulgaris, is an interesting plant, an introduced species from Europe.

The bladder refers to the inflated calyx at the base of the flower. The young shoots are edible although said to be somewhat bitter in taste.
