Bass Harbor Head Light, Maine

Bass Harbor lies just outside of Acadia National Park in Maine and at the head of the harbor lies a lovely lighthouse. It was built in 1858 and automated in 1974. There is a short trail from the parking lot which leads to the rocks below the light, and a much photographed view of the lighthouse.

  1. I really like Bass Harbor Light. I did a painting of it, which sold to a man from CT a couple of years ago. You can see it here:

My painting is of a much grayer day. But it’s such a beautiful light. In the painting, it actually looks like the amber light is glowing. That didn’t pick up too well in the photo I’m afraid.

    Your photo is really nice.

  2. Excellent painting Brian. You’ve caught a nice light. The photo was taken at mid day light which was not the best. I applied a bit of HDR to bring out as much range as I could but morning would have been much nicer.

I like the look of your other paintings as well. I see you have one of Belted Galloways. Very cool. Check back next Monday, as I have a post of them scheduled for publication.

  3. Thanks, Harold. I will check back. I know what you’re saying about light, too. The day we went it was overcast, but with a nice band of orange sky at the horizon. It was really beautiful. You’ve done a nice job with this, though. It doesn’t have that mid-day washed out feel at all.
