Backhouse Mill: Ontario Mills

This mill was built by John Backhouse in 1798, and was purchased by the Big Creek Conservation Authority in 1955, at which time it had been the longest continually operating mill of any in the Province of Ontario.

  3. Nice picture. I am a photographer and have photographed many of these old Mills. I think it would be great if you published where they are so others could easily visit. I like to go for a drive searching for Mills.

  4. Great pictures Harold! Ken, have you seen our book called “Ontario’s Historic Mills”? It’s still in bookstores (including the big ones) and provides directions and info on dozens of mills that can be explored and or photographed in Ontario. It may be a useful resource. (by Boston Mills Press)
