Algonquin Predawn

I had started out well before dawn, fortified myself with coffee and muffin, and headed into Algonquin Provincial Park. Parking in the Lookout Trail lot, I headed up, a flashlight guiding my path. The air was calm and deliciously crisp.

Suddenly the silence was broken by the sound of of wolves howling. The pack wasn’t close but the sound carried well, a sound that let me know this was true wilderness. The cries of the pack was punctuated by a single call of a Barred Owl.

The western edge of the trail lies on a steep cliff side looking miles of forest, the sun beginning to warm the scene, patches of fog in pockets.
