About

Filed under: General — Harold Stiver @ 2:31 pm

I live in Southern Ontario, Canada with my wife Elaine, where I am an executive with a financial services company. I have had a fascination with the natural world for decades, particularly birds, and have traveled much of the world to see them
In the year 2000, I became interested in photography and have developed one of the most extensive collection of bird images by a single photographer, covering more than 1400 species.
My images have been well received for publication and exhibit, including organizations like the Discovery Channel and the Smithsonian, as well as dozens of publications like Living Bird, Western Birds, Birdwatch, Ducks Unlimited, scientific texts and Field Guides.

  1. Hi Harold

First thanks for your pictures. A pleasure to see your work
Segund: Which lens are you recommending between 300 F2,8 and 500 F5,6 both canon. I work with the mark III and I woud like to buy a new lens, currently I have 300 F5,6 with conv.
    Let me know.

    All the best.

  2. Thanks Manuel.

Your Mexico website is looking spectacular.

I’ve never used the 300 f2.8 but I hear it is Canon’s sharpest. In fact it is supposed to give sharp images even using the 2X Teleconverter, and it retains AF with the TC too.

I personally love the 500mm. I use it a lot with the 1.4X TC. It is even light enough to use handheld for short periods .

Sorry ,thats probably not much help, but I’m sure you’ll get the best out of either one.

    Cheers, Harold

  3. Hello,
I tried your luminosity mask with CS 1, and I can’t get the dancing ants to show up on my Mac.

Does it work for CS 1?

  4. Hi Martin

I think it should work (of course using Mac rather than PC commands). I don’t have Mac or PS CS1 so I can’t try it.
