Burkeville Covered Bridge, Massachusetts

When Built: 1870 (Rebuilt 1999)

Builders: Not known

Description: This is often called the oldest surviving bridge in North America which it certainly is not. Hyde Hall in New York dates from 1825, and there are many other bridges which are built before 1870 which survive. It has been rebuilt a number of times and is presently in excellent shape.

This is part of a series on Massachusetts’ Covered Bridges. You can find an index here.

Green River Lookout, Utah

This is the Green River Lookout in Canyonlands ((Rim) National Park in Utah at sunset. There is a road below that makes a circuit if you have a tough enough vehicle. You best be sure because it costs a couple of thousand dollars to be hauled out.

Capital Reef NP, Utah

The real voyage of discovery consists not in seeking new landscapes, but in having new eyes.” – Marcel Proust

I had planned to stop at Coral Reef NP as a waypoint, a convenient place to go between Arches NP and Bryce NP. It turned out to have a unique charm all its own, and a place I would look forward to spending time at again.
