A Great Lakes Freighter leaves Hamilton harbor. The lift bridge lowers behind it.

When I saw this freighter headed out of the harbor, I quickly tried to get set up and in place. The whole time I was answering a guy’s questions, trying to be polite and explained I was making a timelapse video. At the end he suggested it was too complicated and I should just get a camcorder.

Finding the Edge

Those familiar with Photoshop may be aware of a filter called Find Edges which simplifies an image to the edges.

I’ve used it on several series of timelapses to give a kind of poster effect.

The Dam at Paris, a Timelapse Video

This video can be viewed in HD and full screen by  clicking on the Full screen icon on the bottom right.

This area in Paris, Ontario is a scene I’ve returned many times to photograph. In different seasons, different viewpoints, it seems always to offer something new.

This timelapse is made from 450 images tonemapped in Photomatix, initially compiled in VirtualDub, and rendered in Sony Vegas. I set the frame rate at 15/second.

The music is “Tea Roots” by Kevin MacLeod
