Wawa Goose, Ontario

Actually it’s the Wawa Goose, an iconic statue that sits beside the Transcanada Highway in Wawa, Ontario, and for many Canadians, a symbol of the North. Wawa is an Ojibway word that means “Wild Goose”.

Fun with Pixel Bender

Filed under: Graphic,Processing Tips,Reviews,Video — Tags: , , , , — Harold Stiver @ 6:00 am

Adobe offers a free plugin called Pixel Bender which allows filters to be written and run on a number of their products. These effects may be run in Photoshop, After Effects and Flash.

You can download the plug-in for PS CS4 at Adobe and for PS CS5 at Adobe. You can find free filters to run at Pixel Bender Exchange. Some of my favorites follow:

The Droste Effect

The Droste effect is where an image has a smaller image of itself which has another smaller image of itself, and so on. It is named after a cocoa manufacturer who used it on their package labeling. There are settings that can also give you more extreme abstract views.

RippleBlock Effect

The effect to defaults make ripples in the image. I think it gives the most interesting results by increasing the amplitude in the x and y axis to about three time the defaults.

Beaver Dam at Dusk

This Beaver Dam was above Crooked Slide Waterfall. Its amazing how much work relatively small animals can accomplish. They take down quite large trees and move them about.

The Grist Mill is located on the grounds of the Vermont Country Store alongside the Victorian Village Covered Bridge. The store is a great place to visit and have a look at a wide selection of unusual items.

The Shelbourne Round Barn, Vermont

The Shelbourne Round Barn, Vermont

About 100 years ago, round barns enjoyed a flurry of popularity after being introduced in Quaker settlements. They had some advantages as cattle could be housed in the center and feed delivered from the edges.

This round barn was initially built in 1901 in East Passumpsic, Vermont. It is eighty feet in diameter and three stories high. It was dismantled and rebuilt at the Shelburne Museum center in Vermont in 1985. Within the grounds you can also visit the Shelburne Covered Bridge.
